Raise yourselves from your seats, gather a breath, and then blow on your vuvuzelas (for those who managed to sneak them in!) a blast on recognition for our next Stadium Hoppers Hall of Famer, Luke Chadwick!
Luke has come full circle in his Stadium Hopping journey and since being scouted by Manchester United at the age of 15 on the local fields of Cambridge and being offered a trial in Manchester. He’s managed to accrue an impressive 77 Stadium Hops to his name since then. Believe it or not before he even got back from his trial in Salford his mum had already received a call from Sir Alex Ferguson asking him to sign on the dotted line.
Despite having a hugely successful career spanning over 15 years and including some time at Antwerp, Manchester United’s feeder and support club believe it or not Luke only ever managed to attract around £300k in transfer fee’s.
He may of called “The Theatre of Dreams” home for four years but he’s also visited stadiums like The Den, The Hive and The Hawthorns… often much pricklier and stinging venues than the idyllic scene of 60,000 plus United fans chanting your name. Not only has he conquered such stadia but he’s also managed to play in every tier of England’s professional Football League and that is some achievement in itself.
Now whilst Luke will never have any Beauty Pageant medals for his trophy room he does have a Premier League Winners medal to his name, and more importantly to him… A Conference Playoff winner’s medal! Chadwick told the BBC last year he fulfilled a footballing dream when on his Cambridge United debut he put on that Amber shirt for the first time, and there’s nothing we respect more at Stadium Hoppers than a real football man who holds his local team in higher aspire more than any of the bright light attractions of Premier League top four sides.
So for the love of football we welcome Chadwick into the Hall of Fame and commend him on 77 grounds he’s achieved… only 15 left to do Luke!
